The Mode-S Beast uses an open interface and an open protocol to the PC Therefore it is very simple to test the functionality.
Like explained in the Planeplotter configuration page, first detect the COM port that the Mode-S Beast adds to your system devices.
Then download Putty (you only need to download the executable) or Teraterm. The Windows standard Hyperterm cannot be used because it does not support 1MBit on the serial interface unless you have set the serial port to 115200 bits/sec.
